China Updates Hazardous Chemicals Catalogue with New Substance Classifications

2026-05-12

China's Ministry of Emergency Management has updated the national Hazardous Chemicals Classification Information Table, officially adding five chemicals to the Catalogue of Hazardous Chemicals. The update includes substances such as propargyl chloride, methanesulfonyl azide, and several explosive or highly hazardous intermediates.

The new classification information outlines hazard categories, safety requirements, and emergency response measures for each substance. Authorities are requiring local regulators and related enterprises to strengthen risk prevention, improve safety management, and enhance hazardous chemical supervision.

Companies involved in the production, import, operation, or use of these chemicals are required to complete hazardous chemical registration and obtain the necessary permits within the specified compliance period. The update reflects China's continued efforts to strengthen hazardous chemical regulation, improve workplace safety, and tighten compliance management across the chemical industry.
